DEAR NOODLES ROSÉ 2023

DEAR NOODLES ROSÉ 2023

Made in the memory of our dearly departed dog who is immortalised on the Sugrue South Downs crest, Dear Noodles is an homage to a loyal companion.

Taking inspiration from the great wines of Bandol, Rioja, and Corsica, we wanted to craft a dry English rosé that was deep in colour and character – the antithesis to the ubiquitous, industrially-made, and flavourless pale pink wines of a certain corner of France – but not lacking in refreshment.

We blended barrels of perfectly ripe, gently macerated Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grown across all our vineyards during the incandescent 2023 vintage – a fabulous year for viticulture in the south of England.

Showing an elegant red berry character and beautifully supple texture, Dear Noodles crackles with energy and juicy acidity on its bone-dry finish.

This is a love letter in a bottle, with a label viewed from a different perspective. The colour and the flavour, as well as a few words from a stolen moment, tell you all you need to know...

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY

"An extraordinarily deep-coloured rosé. An extraordinary rosé. Full stop. It smells of hibiscus petals, of kumquats, warm from the sun. As I bring the glass close, about to sip, I suddenly smell roses, wet earth, a decaying log kicked deep in woodlands. And then the acidity explodes Jimi Hendrix through the wine, left-handed, restrung, upside-down, percussive, syncopated, mesmerising. The fruit is so intense, so fresh, so shocking that it's like biting into a cold blood orange, skin and all – a detonation of flavour, bitterness, fragrance, chew. Kumquats and roses. A huff of fine white pepper. Freshly sharpened pencil on a clean cream page in the grass; wild flowers, sorrel, tiny wild strawberry. All drawing in on the end to a note so precise it's monophonic, and yet, it's everything you've just tasted. Extraordinary intensity. Extraordinary wine." 17.5 Points. Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com

"Much darker than is fashionable, bronze-to-cherry in colour, with small red berries like redcurrant and cranberry. In the mouth it is textured, dry, the intense red berry character continuing yet given real zip with a saline tang to the acidity and the merest squeak of oak tannin adding some earthy depth. Very good." 91 Points, Tom Cannavan, Wine Pages

"Dermot Sugrue's still elegy to his lurcher, Noodles, is a characterful British Barbour jacket rather than a couture Provence pink. 5 stars." Douglas Blyde, The Standard

"Really everything I like in a more full-bodied pink. A bloody good price for such a good wine." Henry Jeffreys, Drinking Culture

"This is like a bowlful of summer pudding in the glass. A generous blend of pinot noir and meunier, this delivers so much concentrated fruit – think macerated strawberries, sweet pomegranate, ripe, squishy raspberries and a heady English cottage garden in full bloom. It’s lively and refreshing." The Independent, Rosamund Hall

"Winemaker Dermot Sugrue’s rosé is all about electrifying freshness. Named after the vineyard’s beloved lurcher, it’s a standout." Charlotte Kristensen, Daily Mail
