DEAR NOODLES ROSÉ 2023

DEAR NOODLES ROSÉ 2023

Taking inspiration from the great rosé wines of Bandol, Rioja, and Corsica, Ana and I wanted to craft a dry English rosé that was deep in colour and character – the antithesis to the ubiquitous, industrially-made, and flavourless pale pink wines of a certain corner of France – but not lacking in refreshment.

So we blended barrels of perfectly ripe, gently macerated Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grown across all our vineyards during the incandescent 2023 vintage – a fabulous year for viticulture in the south of England.

Showing an elegant red berry character and beautifully supple texture, Dear Noodles crackles with energy and juicy acidity on its bone-dry finish.

Dear Noodles is a love letter in a bottle, with a label viewed from a different perspective... Or rather lack of label, as the colour and the flavour – as well as a few words from a stolen moment – tell you all you need to know.

Don't miss out: this is the wine of the summer.

WINEMAKER'S NOTES

Made in the memory of our dearly departed lurcher Noodles, who is also immortalised on the Sugrue South Downs crest, Dear Noodles is an homage to a loyal companion.

A prizefighter at heart, Noodles was a gourmet with attitude – boy, could she work a room for food – but she had impeccable manners, and a character that could not be questioned.

AWARDS AND REVIEWS

"Much darker than is fashionable, bronze-to-cherry in colour, with small red berries like redcurrant and cranberry. In the mouth it is textured, dry, the intense red berry character continuing yet given real zip with a saline tang to the acidity and the merest squeak of oak tannin adding some earthy depth. Very good." 91 Points. Tom Cannavan, Wine Pages

"Dermot Sugrue's still elegy to his lurcher, Noodles, is a characterful British Barbour jacket rather than a couture Provence pink. 5 stars." Douglas Blyde

"Not only drinkable, but downright delicious. If you like your rosé bone dry with real flavour then you'll love it as much as I do (which is a lot)." Helen McGinn

"It brims with intensely pure red plum and redcurrant fruit, energetic brightness and satisfyingly chewy yet ripe tannins. A brilliantly British rosé that has bite and brawn!" Amelia Singer

"It’s typically excellent – deeper hue, more flavour, richer texture than your common or garden. Inspired by the great gastronomic rosés of the world. But, it’s fresh as a whippet, juicy and bright. There’s oak barrel creaminess and chew, buffering the edges. Pinot Noir and Meunier vinous-ness." Tom Surgey

"Really everything I like in a more full-bodied pink. A bloody good price for such a good wine." Henry Jeffreys

"This is like a bowlful of summer pudding in the glass. A generous blend of pinot noir and meunier, this delivers so much concentrated fruit – think macerated strawberries, sweet pomegranate, ripe, squishy raspberries and a heady English cottage garden in full bloom. It’s lively and refreshing." The Independent, Rosamund Hall

"Winemaker Dermot Sugrue’s rosé is all about electrifying freshness. Named after the vineyard’s beloved lurcher, it’s a standout." Charlotte Kristensen, Daily Mail
